Audio description for teaching purposes

Research project (since 2021) investigating audio description as a teaching tool for foreign languages, especially English.

This project investigates audio description (AD) as a teaching tool for foreign languages, especially English, in school settings. Grounded in Didactic Audiovisual Translation (DAT), it brings the creation and analysis of AD for images, videos and multimodal narratives into class to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as intercultural awareness and linguistic mediation.

It combines cooperative learning, gamification and task-based teaching, treating AD not only as an accessibility resource but as an innovative teaching practice that boosts motivation, engagement and vocabulary acquisition.

Status: ongoing. Team: José Rildo Reis da Silva (coordinator) and Patrícia Araújo Vieira.
